What are the basic skin care products a guy should use?

What are the absolute basic skin care products that a guy should use? I'm not really sure of my skin type, but since I used to have bad acne, and occasionally get isolated pimples even now, I'm guessing I have oily skin. Unfortunately, I can't make sense of all the information I find on the 'net (exfoliants, cleansers, toners, moisturisers, etc.), so I'm wondering what the absolute minimum treatment should be.What are the basic skin care products a guy should use?
Minimum: a cleanser with salysilic acid in it. Anti bacterial specifically for the face. Also, oil-free moisturizer with sunscreen. If you start now and do this you will have amazing skin. You don't need to exfolliate--unless you are old w./ dry skin or really bad acne. Shaving is enough exfolliation. Don't worry about toner, get a good gel cleanser for the face with anit-bacteria properties. Gel cleanser gives your skin a nice, tight feeling. What are the basic skin care products a guy should use?
well i guess you have a combination skin though because one of the big reason for acne to happen is because your skin is dry on your cheeks and oily on other areas but the inner oil glands are not able to push the toxins out hence acne occurs. i would recommend you to use a face wash, toner and moisturiser as a basic. However, its not what you use, sometimes its the brand. i would say clinique for men is good. my husband use to have many of those pimple and acne problems and because im using clinique i recommended him as well and now he is cured. maybe you can seek opinion with the consultant at the counter and they will teach you accordingly. no harm asking for samples to try for a month :) it may help
there are three steps.

cleanse.

tone.

moisturize.

weekly exfoliation.

for a guy, basically i know you would never being doing all of this but you deff. need to be cleansing twice a day. try some products like basic cream/foam cleansers and if you dint like them try something with a gentle scrub in it.

i would also advise you to buy a toner, i use netrogena pore cleaner or something, its a clear bottel with blue liquid. use this if you notice your starting to break out, it really helps me ( i have oily skin with the occasional break out). Also buy a moisturizer if you ever feel your skin being dry, or after you tone. Just buy a basic one, maybe with some spf if you'll use it in the morning before you go outside.

hope this helps
I know how you feel with all the technical advice on how products work and what to do. Here are two simple bits of advice that I have learned when is comes to many things, especially making a decision on our personal health choices. Skin care choices are very critical to our overall health - good or bad.

Point 1: Choose natural when you can. Food, skin care, etc.

Synthetic ingredients in most skin care products are potentially very harmful. Many people do not know this but it is true. i.e. Parabens - an ingredient used in skin care and some food as a preservative has been found in breast cancer patients. Men get breast cancer too.

Point 2: Choose a source that you can trust. Friends or companies.

Most companies are more concerned with their profit statements than your long term health.

Here is an article that will get you thinking along the lines of the above. This source has all natural products (point 1) is honest and does care about their customers (point 2).

The article helped me get on the right track and how to simplify my skin care program. I shave, cleanse and hydrate as they suggest. It is that simple. (Women have more of a challenge but they have women's products too. My wife couldn't be happier with their skin care line.)

The article mainly talks about ingredients. But unless you use ingredients that are natural, safe and effective you will lose in the long run. Here is the article. Go to their website: http://www.XtendSkinCare.com Sign up for their newsletter. Follow their advice. I am happy that I do.

Man Skin Care Secret Ingredients

For every man skin care is an important daily ritual, similar to brushing your teeth. Obviously, it’s important to you, or you wouldn’t have made this search. Let me tell you about the best solutions for male skin care products on the market today.

Male skin care products have entered a new age. Some companies now realize that it is not only women who care about their looks.

Of course, there are still far fewer “man skin care products” than there are for a woman, but at least you have more options than you used to. If you shave, spend a lot of time outdoors or work in a dirty environment, then you are far more likely to have excessive redness and inflammation.

If you don’t get enough rest or are under a lot of stress, you may have dark circles and bags under your eyes in the morning. If you take a little extra time every day and choose the right male skin care creams, you can take care of all of those problems, before they become permanent signs of aging. Look for Men's Eye Contour Gel.

Man Skin Care Ingredients to AVOID

First, there are some things that you should avoid and they are common ingredients in average man skin care. Just about every after shave cream on the market contains alcohol. Even drug store witch hazel only contains a small amount of the extract. The rest is alcohol.

There’s alcohol in your cologne, your body wash and probably your shampoo. It may be a powerful antiseptic and antibacterial agent, but it’s very drying and is, therefore, bad for your skin’s health.

It increases redness and irritation. You know it burns when you use it on a cut or an area burned by your razor. So, stop using it. The best male skin care creams don’t contain it.

Beneficial Male Skin Care Ingredients

Every day, after you shave, use a cream that contains witch hazel extract, vitamin B5, capuacu butter and grape seed oil. You will find it soothing and refreshing. If the man skin care cream that you have chosen also contains Functional Keratin, you have chosen one of the best. Look for Men's Facial Fluid.

Look For This Ingredient

Functional Keratin is the brand name of a new ingredient that reduces redness and inhibits the inflammatory process, completely. It is so similar to the skin’s own keratin (an amino acid protein) that your body can’t tell the difference. So, it absorbs it, and uses it to create new skin cells, collagen and elastin fibers.

The only preservative that belongs in male skin care products is natural vitamin E. It is a component of grape seed oil, but additional quantities should be included. Vitamin E is one of the most powerful antioxidants. Stay away from products that have 'paraben' as an ingredient.

Antioxidants inhibit the oxidative process that causes signs of aging. It’s really the same process that causes metal to rust when left outdoors. But, instead of rusting, your epidermis, the outermost of the skin’s layers, becomes wrinkled, dried and cracked. If male skin care products contain adequate amounts of antioxidants and moisturizers, you can stop the rust and even reverse the signs of age.

You can’t turn back the clock, but if you choose the right man skin care products, you can almost look like you did.
